  12. Shareware is a generous, trusting concept which treats you like an honest
  13. person, rather than presuming that you are not, as, for instance, copy
  14. protection does.
  15.  
  16. Some think that shareware is only for beginners and that any good program
  17. would go commercial.  Wrong!  Shareware exists because of its values. 
  18. Successful shareware programs have got to be superior, because you get to
  19. try them out thoroughly at home or in the office before buying them.  Many
  20. commercial programs would not survive this acid test.
  21.  
  22. You are allowed to try out a Shareware program for as long as you require, in
  23. order to decide whether you are going to use it or not.
  24.  
  25. When "trying" becomes "using", you are obliged to buy the program.
  26.  
  27. Only then does the Shareware author get paid for his work and expenses for
  28. creating and supporting the program you are using.

  30. Uedit relies on:

  32.         * Your cooperation in safeguarding Uedit by not distributing its
  33.           private files.

  39.                        Becoming a Registered User

  41. When ordering, print this page on your printer.  Circle or mark what you are
  42. paying for and send it in with your order.

  47. Checks and money orders must have Bank Routing Numbers at the bottom of them
  48. and be negotiable at a US bank or post office.

  53. When registering, include the Serial Number of the Uedit you are using.  Get
  54. the serial number by selecting Show Vals in the menu.

  57.     A.  $47 + $3 shipping, Uedit with printed user reference manual.
  58.     B.  $44, Uedit with user reference manual on disk.
  59.     C.  $25, Uedit with command language doc.

  81. As a registered user, you will earn a commission when somebody submits your
  82. serial number when registering.

  85. Refresh Policy:  If you own the current upgrade, you are encouraged to ask
  86. for a "refresh" 8 to 12 weeks after you received the upgrade, so that you will
  87. have the final, fixed, improved release.  No new upgrade is perfect on the
  88. first release.  Not only are bugs a fact of life in the world of software
  89. and fixes are put in after each new upgrade comes out, but also some of
  90. the best enhancements are put in AFTER the initial upgrade comes out. 
  91. (User feedback is why.)  You can get a "refresh" anytime by sending $3 or
  92. your Uedit disk and sase.

  94. Extras disk:  It has configs and emulations written by users.  Emulations
  95. include Ustar by Kurt Wessels, VI by Eric Kennedy, and EDT by Kent McPherson.
  96. These emulate WordStar (tm), the Unix vi (tm) editor, and the DEC Gold Key
  97. (tm) editor.

  101.                                Sharing Uedit
  102.  
  103. You can give people a copy of the Shareware Uedit.  When you give away
  104. copies, you must observe the following restrictions:
  105.  
  106. ***  You must distribute ALL of Uedit's Shareware files together.
  107.      These are in the Shareware directory of the Uedit disk.
  108.  
  109. ***  You must NOT MODIFY any of those files except for putting your serial
  110.      number into UES.
  111.  
  112. ***  You must NOT distribute copies of UE or the printed or disk Manual or
  113.      Uedit's command language documentation or spell-checking materials.  You
  114.      may distribute ONLY the Shareware directory and must NOT distribute any
  115.      file that is in the Private directories.

  117. *** You MUST use Uedit COPYRIGHT notices on Uedit files.

  119. *** You MUST use Uedit TRADEMARK notices on "Uedit".

  121. You may include your own files along with Uedit, put files on several
  122. diskettes, distribute files via modem, or compress files, as long as their
  123. contents remain unchanged.

  125. You may print, copy, and distribute the Help! and other text files in the
  126. Shareware directory.

  128. Please encourage others to try Uedit.  In distributing it and encouraging new
  129. registrations, you will be supporting good programming for Amiga Shareware.

  131. And your feedback is important too.  Most of the improvements in Uedit since
  132. the beginning have been in response to feedback from its users.

  136.                             Revision Numbering
  137.  
  138. When a new version comes out, the old version number is incremented by 0.1. 
  139. Thus, if the current version is V2.4a, the next true upgrade will be V2.5a.
  140.  
  141. When bugs are fixed in a version, the release letter is incremented.  Thus if
  142. 2.4a has bugs, the fixed release is 2.4b.

  144. If you own a version such as V2.4a and bugs are found in it and a V2.4b is
  145. released, you may get V2.4b by sending in $3 or your V2.4a diskette, a self
  146. addressed mailer, and postage.
